Ndebele Choker & Two Cuffs

R850

Description

This Ndebele set includes ONE Ndebele Choker (Gold) and TWO Cuffs. Both choker and cuffs are adjustable.
This copper or brass neck ring is called “Idzila” in the Ndebele language. It was historically worn by married Ndebele women as a symbol of their bond and faithfulness to their husband. The husband was responsible for providing the “Idzila” to his wife as way of showcasting to the tribe his wealth and family status. The more “Idzila” a wife wore, the wealthier the husband was assumed to be. In the Ndebele culture, the “Idzila” represent the african woman as a warrior and protector of her home.
